Can you believe that the Gaspee Day Committee has been celebrating for over 50 years? Last year was a wonderful year with both new and old events. We turn the page this year and look forward to the next years of celebrating Gaspee Days, the “First Blow for Freedom” by Rhode Island residents back in 1772.
This committee has and continues to work diligently to celebrate and educate about this important historical event. This year will be no exception to our past success. We are planning some changes to our events as well as considering some new events each and every year. Please check our web site for all of the current information on events. Or if you have a special interest in Gaspee Days, please join our committee; we are all ways looking for and welcoming new people and new ideas.
I hope to see many new faces at our upcoming celebration of the Burning of the HMS Gaspee. The Gaspee Day Committee wishes to recognize the help and support of the Pawtuxet Rangers, the Shriners, The Friends of Pawtuxet Village, the Pawtuxet Village Association, the Pawtuxet Merchants Association, Warwick Office of Culture and Tourism, as well as the elected officials and city workers from both Warwick and Cranston.
As an all-volunteer organization we need the community’s support for all of our events. Please consider volunteering your time or making a donation to help defray the cost of the annual Gaspee Days Parade. To make a donation, please contact us.
The Gaspee Days committee is now active on Twitter @GaspeeDay and on Facebook at GaspeeDays so please consider following along. I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming celebration of Gaspee Days!
Jerrold Peshka, President
